THE ARTIST

Catalina Bayona is a Colombian artist based in the United States. She creates images of the natural world and human beings, she explores different techniques, inviting us to see the human condition and nature in unique ways.

She takes various spiritual elements that have a strong symbolism not only for her but also for her family and friends. All the elements that she uses such as bodies or objects make a sensitive platform to recreate an image of a spiritual world.

Her work refers to subjective ideas, irrational for many, but these do not remain in the simple appearance of the figures, but through these one reaches the supernatural. She captures the spiritual world as she visualizes it, her dreams and fantasies through symbols. Beyond the technique, She tries to ensure that the image has a type of “filter” given by mysticism, beauty and the supernatural. She also interprets the unknown through the splashing of paint at the end of each piece. This ending technique represents violent elements of anguish and conflict, free of any human will.
